The 14th annual Miniatures by the Lake features nearly 100 works of art by more than 80 artists.

For the past 13 years, Coeur d’Alene Galleries has hosted its Miniatures by the Lake exhibition with a group of artists who create work just for the show and for collectors who are clamoring for the small-scale gems. This year’s edition, opening September 3, will include nearly 100 works of art by more than 80 artists—some who have been longtime exhibitors and others who are newer to the event. It’s a dynamic mix of art that spans all the West has to offer.Shawn Cameron, Thoughts at Twilight, oil, 9 x 12"

“We couldn’t be more excited about our 14th annual Miniatures by the Lake Show,” says gallery owner Buddy Le. “We never imagined it would grow into this incredible event featuring so many different Western artists that paint in various styles and techniques. The ability to see all the different works next to each other makes it hard to hide if it’s a mediocre work, so the artists do an amazing job at putting their best foot forward for this event.”

Nicholas Coleman, Dusk in the Rockies, oil, 11 x 14"

Included in the show will be artists such as C. Michael Dudash, Jeremy Winborg, Colt Idol, Luke Frazier, Mark Susinno, Randy Van Beek, Jennifer Johnson, Ty Barhaug and Ken Yarus.

Shawn Cameron will exhibit her painting Thoughts at Twilight, depicting a cowboy on horseback looking at the clouds at dusk. Cameron says, “The evening’s grand finale provides a fleeting moment when God speaks and it’s up to us to listen.”

Brothers of War, by Don Oelze, shows a Native American and his horse facing out toward the viewer. “The bond between this warrior and his horse is strong, in fact, he regards his war pony as a brother,” Oelze describes. “His well trained and loyal friend could be the difference between life and death as they bravely go into the heat of battle.”

William Haskell, Watchful, acrylic, 8 x 8"

In Nicholas Coleman’s painting Dusk in the Rockies, the main element is the sunset and its captivating light. “Sunsets in the American West can be quite spectacular,” Coleman says. “I’ve been told I’m a bit of a romantic when it comes to my work. But I can guarantee the skies I love to paint are the real deal! No better inspiration than taking a walk out your back door. All you have to do is look up! Timing helps too.”

William Haskell’s painting Watchful embraces “the iconic image of the American cowboy as a protector and guardian, as well as the distinctive landscape of the West,” he says. “I also wanted to capture the solitude that we all feel in our lives and how we are all on our own separate journey in life.”

Miniatures by the Lake will conclude with its reception on September 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. “All the works are still sold by fixed-price draw so collectors have an equal opportunity at their favorite painting,” says Le. “Besides the quality and variety of small works, people are always surprised how fun our reception is on September 25. We seem to always have a strong showing of artists in attendance, great food and the excitement of the draw.”
